Oregon Heritage Conference

2024 Oregon Heritage Conference:
Make Space.
April 17-20, Forest Grove

Join us for the first in person conference since 2018!

The conference is a time for people who share a common passion for Oregon’s heritage and history to come together to share insights, understand connections, develop relationships, learn new ways, reinforce the value of the work and leave energized to keep moving forward.

With all of the demands on people including information overload, home life, work tasks and all the things…the conference will be a place to Make Space. The way to move Oregon heritage work forward is to Make Space: clear the clutter, set priorities, build relationships, and plan for the time it takes.

Martha Barnette & Grant Barrett, A Way with Words!

Conference Plenary Speaker, April 18

Martha Barnette and Grant Barrett, hosts of A Way with Words, the popular radioshow and podcast about language, will kick off the conference with a lively exploration of word histories, linguistic differences, and bias toward non-mainstream dialects - with plenty of time for Q&A.

Matika Wilbur, Project 562

Conference Plenary Speaker, April 19

Matika Wilbur is from the Swinomish and Tulalip Tribes. She is the founder and photographer of Project 562, a documentary project dedicated to changing the way we see Native America. Her goal is to move beyond appropriation and objectification of indigenous images and offer honest representations. Matika will kick off the closing day of the conference, leaving us ready to persevere in our work to explore the human experience in Oregon, preserve the objects, stories, and practices that reflect it, and share them with people to better understand it.

You can learn more about her work through the Project 562 blog and on the All My Relations podcast she cohosts with Dr. Adrienne Keene.

Schedule is still in progress and subject to change.

Join us in downtown Forest Grove!
