Pharmacist in Charge Information & Resources

PIC Training Program Information

The Oregon Board of Pharmacy understands the critical role Pharmacists-in-Charge (PICs) play in ensuring patient safety and medication access. To support you in this important role, we offer a comprehensive PIC training course.

Per OAR 855-115-0205:

  • Pharmacists who do not have at least one year of pharmacy practice must complete the PIC training course within 90 days of appointment as a PIC.
  • As of July 1, 2025, all Oregon pharmacists acting as a PIC will be required to complete the PIC training course at least once every five years.

The 3 module course is available on-demand, meaning you can access it 24/7 whenever you're ready.

Participants must complete all 3 modules (approximately 1 hour each) of the course to earn a PIC training course certificate. To view the modules, please click on the link(s) below.

Upon finishing all 3 modules, participants will earn a total of 3 hours of Oregon board-approved Continuing Pharmacy Education (CPE) credit (1 hour of law, 1 hour of patient safety, 1 hour of other)

  • To claim the certificate and CPE credit, access the certificate link. Participants will need to enter the program code from each module.
    • Entering the correct codes is important to access the final assessment and evaluation.
    • If an incorrect code is entered, the participant will not be able to proceed. Just review the relevant module again to find the correct code and try again. Agency staff cannot provide you with these codes.
  • Once participants have successfully entered all program codes and completed the assessment and evaluation, a certificate will be emailed within 8 weeks.

While this program is Oregon board-approved, it is not accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). Therefore, completion of this programs will not automatically appear in the NABP CPE Monitor*. Participants can upload the course completion certificate for this program into their e-Gov profile and comply with CPE record retention requirements in OAR 855-135.

*Pharmacists can upgrade to the NABP CPE Monitor Plus program for an annual fee to track non-ACPE credits. This upgrade allows a Pharmacist to manually upload credits from board-approved programs.
