The Board is responsible for licensing and regulating Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) and Public Accountants (PAs) in Oregon.

The Board of Accountancy assures that approximately 8,500 CPAs, PAs, municipal auditors and public accounting firms registered to practice in Oregon demonstrate and maintain professional competency to serve the needs of their clients and other users of their services. The Board is authorized by ORS chapter 673 to establish and enforce standards and regulations and license qualified applicants to practice public accountancy in Oregon.

New Ethics Requirement for CPAs and PAs
ALL active licensees in Oregon are required to report four hours of CPE in professional conduct and ethics EVERY RENEWAL PERIOD. (Effective January 1, 2009)

NEW LICENSEES MUST TAKE AN ETHICS PROGRAM FROM A REGISTERED ETHICS SPONSOR. A list of the registered providers can be found on CPE Ethics page. A registered sponsor must include information pertaining to each of the following topics:

* Oregon Revised Statutes and Oregon Administrative Rules pertaining to the practice of public accountancy;
* Examples of issues or situations that require a licensee to understand relevant statutes and rules;
* The Code of Professional Conduct adopted by the Board and set forth in OAR Chapter 801, Division 030; and
* Overview of recent case law pertaining to ethics and professional responsibilities of the accounting profession.

Board and Committee Meeting Agendas
You can now view the agenda for both Board and Committee meetings online. Board minutes are published and posted once approved by the Board. All meetings are recorded and may be purchased. Contact the Board office for further information.

Mobility Legislation Highlights
The Oregon Legislature passed SB 867 which allows licensees from other states to practice public accountancy in Oregon without registering with the Board. For a breakdown of the new language, please click the following link.
State Government Mandated Office Closure
Due to extraordinary budgetary shortfalls, Oregon state government through the Department of Administrative Services is continuing cost reduction measures for the 2009-11 biennium. All state agencies, including the Board of Accountancy, will be closed on the following days:
