[Upbeat music] (Narrator) The Building Codes Division is a community of more than 110 employees working together to provide a safe building industry through effective customer service, promoting a positive business climate and responsive administration of Oregon’s building code. We do this every day, in all of our jobs. BCD safeguards Oregonians’ investment in buildings and structures by requiring energy efficiency, use of appropriate construction technology, and other elements that ensure building performance. BCD monitors the state’s growing construction economy to help both industry and local governments achieve Oregon’s goal of reasonable and predictable statewide building standards. An example of this work, BCD provides tools to building inspectors and contractors to ensure construction development proceeds in a timely, efficient, and consistent manner. Some of the primary positions at BCD are building, electrical, plumbing and elevator inspectors; Building, electrical, and plumbing code specialists; Plans examiners; Licensing and permitting specialists; Financial and administrative specialists; Information technology specialists; Policy analysts; Professional engineers; and program managers. It is especially helpful when applicants have a basic understanding of building code programs and the mission of the division in terms of administering the program through state level and local jurisdictional processes.
