Positions Available - 1 Public Member, 2 Pharmacist
Public Member Lee Howard completed his second term as a Board Member on June 30, 2011. A new public member has not yet been appointed.
Pharmacist Member Ann Zweber, who has been a Board Member since July 2004, will complete her second term on June 30, 2012. Pharmacist Member Larry Cartier, who has been a Board member since July of 2008, will complete his first term on June 20, 2012.
Historically under the old law, which was amended following the 2009 legislative session, Board members were limited to serving no more than two consecutive four-year terms. Under the current law, the term limit has been removed and an interested Board member may reapply and be reappointed as many times as a governor chooses to do so.
The Board of Pharmacy, by law, is composed of seven members, including five pharmacists and two public members who are not pharmacists. Members are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the state Senate to serve a four-year term on the Board, and they may be reappointed.
To be qualified for the pharmacist member position a person must at the time of appointment be an Oregon resident, be licensed in good standing to practice pharmacy in the state, be engaged in the practice of pharmacy in the state, and have at least five years experience in the practice of pharmacy in the state after licensure.
To be qualified for the public member position, a person must have attained the age of majority, must not have been a former member of the profession of pharmacy, must not and never have had any material financial interest in the providing of pharmacy service, and must not have engaged in any activity directly related to the practice of pharmacy. The public member must not be the spouse, domestic partner, child, parent, or sibling of a pharmacist. Any qualified Oregon citizen may apply for the public member position.
Under Oregon Law, ORS 689.115 The Oregon Pharmacy Act, Board members required to be licensed pharmacists may be selected by the governor from a list of three to five nominees for each vacancy, submitted by a task force assembled by the Oregon State Pharmacy Association (OSPA) to represent all of the interested pharmacy groups. However, the OSPA endorsement is not a necessary component of the Governors appointment.
