This position is with the Oregon State Police in Portland, Oregon.
This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants and may be used to fill future openings.
Due to budgetary shortfalls, the person appointed to this position may be required to take unpaid furlough days between September 1, 2009 and June 30, 2011.
These positions are represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). Union members pay union dues; non-union members pay "fair share."

AGENCY OVERVIEW
We are the provider of Premier Public Safety Services for Oregon each and every day. Our mission is to enhance the livability and safety for the State of Oregon by protecting the people, property, and natural resources of the State. The OSP workforce is comprised of more than 1,300 sworn and professional staff in the areas of patrol, criminal investigation, forensic services, medical examiner, state fire marshal, gaming regulation, fish and wildlife regulation, public safety communications, and information management with a biennial budget of approximately $325 million total funds.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Receptionist and call taker. Assist in person and over the phone requests for reports and/or information to include: explain rules, procedures and laws regarding patrol issues (ie: child restraints, VIN’s, criminal history checks, towed autos and court), job application and ride along forms);
Accurately enter crash reports and traffic citations in database system, provide copies of crash reports as requested.
Maintain court subpoena files, advising personnel of cancellations and resets; sort, copy and distribute teletypes. Open, screen, date stamp, route Portland Area Command incoming mail.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Available five days a week to provide production typing/data entry of citations into SPIDER database; address reception needs for Criminal, Fish and Wildlife, Patrol Division employees; and clerical needs of the Portland Area Command Office. Work is performed in a high traffic office using computers and telephones. The employee is required to leave primary work area to walk to other locations within the building to complete assigned work. Supervisor and co-workers are located in the same area. Heavy volume of contacts by the general public; frequent interruptions and noise; contact with difficult people.
TO QUALIFY

completion of courses or training in Office Technology; OR
one year of general clerical experience which included typing, word processing, or other generation of documents; OR
