OFFICE SPECIALIST 2
$2,216 - $2,945 MONTHLY


These Limited Duration positions (five) are with the Oregon State Police in Salem, Oregon. These limited duration assignments are due to end September 30, 2010.
 
The shifts for these positions vary as the Identification Services Section is a 24/7/365 operation. 
 
This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants and may be used to fill future openings.
 
Due to budgetary shortfalls, the person appointed to this position may be required to take unpaid furlough days between September 1, 2009 and June 30, 2011.
 
These positions are represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).  Union members pay union dues; non-union members pay "fair share." 
 
Prior to being offered a position, finalists must pass a fingerprint-based security/criminal record background check.
 
AGENCY OVERVIEW
 
We are the provider of Premier Public Safety Services for Oregon each and every day.  Our mission is to enhance the livability and safety for the State of Oregon by protecting the people, property, and natural resources of the State.  The OSP workforce is comprised of more than 1,300 sworn and professional staff in the areas of patrol, criminal investigation, forensic services, medical examiner, state fire marshal, gaming regulation, fish and wildlife regulation, public safety communications, and information management with a biennial budget of approximately $325 million total funds.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Reviews and analyzes records received from the Psychiatric Security Review Board (PSRB), the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) – Addictions and Mental Health Division, and the Oregon Judicial Department (OJD) to determine compliance with established rules, laws, policies and procedures and/or to determine that documentation is complete and accurate.  Analysis could include manual review of the records to determine the appropriate process and location for retention and reference to a subject’s disqualifying information pertaining to firearms possession and transfer activity under federal law.
 
Reconcile with records either existing in, missing from or to establish within the Oregon CCH, III or NCIC files.  Reconciliation could include manual entry of data into LEDS and/or flagging records in CCH  to indicate disqualification status:  e.g.  “Disqualified” (disqualifying information on record), “Clear” (no disqualifying information on record) or “Status Unknown” (unable to determine after significant effort).
 
Prepare record data for transfer to the NICS index, or other designated database, as appropriate.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
 
Normal office atmosphere with extended periods of; sitting at a desk. These periods have a maximum duration of two hours.  One to two hours exposure daily to a loud noise from a clocking machine. Routine usage and maintenance of office equipment may require pushing, pulling, scooting and/or lifting of up to 50 lbs.   Local travel could be necessary to obtain data for review or be on site during the review process.
 
The Department of State Police mission is to provide service seven days a week, 24 hours a day to the citizens of Oregon.  To fulfill this mission, this position is subject to scheduling variations that may include call-outs, irregular hours, varying shift assignments, and varying days off.
 
TO QUALIFY

two years of general clerical experience, one year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents;  OR
 
an Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology;  OR
 
graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology and one year of general clerical experience.
 
College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
