Fire Service Scholarships

Oregon Fire Marshal's Association
Neil Hamilton Memorial Scholarship
The Neil Hamilton Memorial Scholarship is available to those students enrolled in Fire Prevention courses at an accredited Oregon Community College. 
 
Richard Schuening Scholarship
OFMA created an annual scholarship to the Northwest Fire & Arson Seminar in remembrance of Sgt. Dick Schuening, an Oregon State Police Explosives Technician and Arson Investigator. He died in the line of duty October 1997. Dick was passionate about his work. and placed much value in training others in the field. he was so skilled in.
 
It is with this commitment to training that the scholarship is offered and allows Dick’s spirit to the Northwest Fire & Arson Seminar to live on. We are seeking applicants who have the same growing commitment to professional development that Dick shared with the Oregon Fire Service.
 
Oregon Fire Apparatus & Equipment Mechanics Association
Every year OFAEMA awards, to a deserving student, a full scholarship to the Annual Fire Mechanics School held in March.  Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
1.  A member in good standing with a paid volunteer fire department, OR
2.  Actively involved in the maintenance and operation of emergency apparatus. 
Oregon Volunteer Firefighters Association
The Oregon Volunteer Firefighters Association is committed to supporting and encouraging the education of current and future fire service members.  As a part of this committment, the OVFA Board of Directors has set aside funds to provide scholarships for OVFA members and thier families to assist with the purchase of textbooks and the payment of tuition.  Click here for application
 
There are a total of seven scholarships awarded annually:
 
1.  Two $500 Text Book Scholarships - awarded to members of OVFA.  Direct deposit book scholarships made to the bookstore of the student's choice in the student's name.
 
2.  One $1000 Bob Sheppard Memorial Scholarship - awarded to the members of OVFA.  Applicant must be a student in the second, third, or forth year of study of a fire science or EMS Assiciate degree at an Oregon Institution.
 
3.  Two $750 Fire Science/EMS Scholarships - awarded to members of OVFA.  Applicants pursuing a fire science or EMS degree at an Oregon institution.
 
4.  Two $500 OVFA Member Scholarships - awarded to an OVFA member, or a spouse, son, or daughter of an OVFA member.  The recipient is not required to be a member of OVFA if a spouse, parent, or legal guardian is a member.  The student may be enrolled in an institution outside the State of Oregon.
 
Oregon Student Assistance Commission
Grants and Scholarships Division
Applicants for awards must be the natural, adopted or stepchild of any PUBLIC SAFETY officer in Oregon, as defined by ORS 237.610 who, in the line of duty, was killed or disables.  Eligible public safety officers include:
  • Firefighters (excludes volunteers)
  • State Fire Marshal and the chief deputy fire marshal and deputy state fire marshals
  • Police chiefs and police officers
  • Sheriffs and deputy sheriffs
  • County adult parole and probation officers
  • Correction officers
  • Investigators of the Criminal Justice division of the Department of Justice
