The Oregon State Police Pre-Academy is 4 weeks or 186 hours of OSP specific training which takes place prior to the 16 week Basic Police course.
During the Pre-Academy we focus our training on 1st Responder training, which is 32 hours of medical training that is one level below basic EMT. We also instruct 16 hours of verbal communications, 40 hours of firearms, 26 hours of Defensive Tactics and various other topics that our specific to our agency such as payroll and benefits, Department History, Physical Fitness, Fish and Wildlife and many more.

Upon completion of the Pre-Academy, a Recruit with then attend the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (http://www.oregon.gov/DPSST/index.shtml) 16 week Basic Police course with municipal and county officers.
