The Evidence Technician program utilizes professional staff to effectively manage the agency’s evidence. Using Evidence Technicians relieves sworn members such as Troopers and Sergeants from maintaining evidence and returns them to their regular duties and responsibilities.
Currently there are ten Evidence Technicians located throughout the state. Their primary focus is to acquire, maintain and dispose of property and evidence according to State and Federal laws and guidelines for the agency. Evidence Technicians maintain the security of the evidence lockers and protect evidence from deterioration, loss, and contamination. They maintain evidence integrity by documenting the chain of custody and enforcing strict evidence access rules and policies. After cases are finished they work closely with District Attorneys, Judges and other authorizing agents to dispose of the evidence appropriately.
