The cause of the crash remains under investigation. On December 21, 2007 at approximately 7:57 p.m. a 1977 Ford Ranger pickup driven by WILLIAM GALEN MOFFETT SR., age 86, from Powers, was northbound on Highway 242 near milepost 17 when, for an unknown reason, it struck the guardrail and traveled across the highway where it then collided with an embankment. MOFFETT was pronounced deceased at the scene. Safety restraint use information is not available at this time. Oregon State Police troopers from the Coos Bay Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Coos County Medical Examiner, Powers Fire Department, Powers Ambulance, and ODOT assisted at the scene. Traffic was limited to a single lane for about two hours. ### www.oregon.gov/OSP ###
