12/13/2007
Lieutenant Gregg Hastings
Public Information Officer
Office: (503) 731-3020 ext. 247

Following media coverage related to a December 6th news release about an identity theft suspect who used ATM machines to withdraw several thousand dollars from a victim’s account, Oregon State Police have positively identified the suspect as a 54-year old Marion County resident.  Oregon State Police received several tips of which five specifically named the suspect.

During an eleven day period in June 2007 the suspect used ATM machines to withdraw approximately $7,300.00 cash from the victim’s account in Salem and Keizer areas, and at Spirit Mountain Casino.  The suspect’s name is withheld at this time because he has not been taken into custody.

Our Department thanks the media reporting and public participation that helped in this ongoing investigation.  No additional information will be released until the suspect has been taken into custody.
