| Fatal Vehicle / Pedestrian Crash - Portland Road NE in Salem | ||

Sergeant Dale Young Oregon State Police - Salem Office: (503) 378-3387 A female pedestrian died Sunday evening when she was struck by a van while attempting to cross Portland Road NE east of Interstate 5 in the Salem area. She has been positively identified and next of kin were notified. On December 9, 2007 at approximately 7:12 p.m. a 2002 Ford Windstar van driven by JUSTIN M. NEILL, age 18, from Salem, was northbound on Portland Road NE in the left lane when it collided with SILVIA SANCHEZ FLORES, age 42, from Salem, who was attempting to cross on foot from the west to the east side of Portland Road NE near Hayesville Drive NE. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. NEILL was not injured. Safety restraint use information is not available. Oregon State Police troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Assistance at the scene provided by Marion County Sheriff's Office, ODOT, Salem Fire Department, and Keizer Police Department. Following the partial closure of part of NE Portland Road, all lanes were reopened about 10:00 p.m. The victim lived on the west side of Portland Road NE near the scene of the fatal crash. ### www.oregon.gov/OSP ###
