A program designed to turn in poachers by offering a reward for information recently awarded a $500.00 check to a man whose information was instrumental in solving poached elk case.
 
On September 30, 2007, licensed hunter ERIC PERRY was looking for a buck in the Upper Deschutes Unit during the Eastern Oregon Controlled Rifle Buck season. PERRY found a dead cow elk in some brush and a called Oregon State Police. Senior Trooper James Hayes met PERRY at the reported location, initiating an investigation and then salvaging the elk meat with the help of PERRY.
 
Information provided by PERRY led to the identification of two suspects. ANTHONY HOWDEN, from Bend, was cited for Taking Cow Elk - Closed Season, and MICHAEL THOMPSON, from Hines, was cited for Aiding in a Wildlife Violation.
 
PERRY was presented a $500.00 check from the Oregon Hunter's Association "Turn in Poachers" (TIP) program. Anyone with information to turn in a poacher can call 800-452-7888. People wishing to remain anonymous may participate in the program.
