GENERAL INFORMATION
The Oregon State Library is recruiting to fill the fulltime position of Information Systems Specialist, assigned to the Government Research and Electronic Services (GRES) team. This position is located in Salem, Oregon.
The Information Systems Specialist should be an innovative person interested in collaborative work and quality customer service. This person is a member of the Library’s three-person Automated Systems Unit (ASU), which develops, operates, maintains, and supports all the systems and telecommunications activities of the state library.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Key duties include:
- Provides phone and email support for services provided by the State Library. Troubleshoots problems and communicates resolution to customers, serving as primary technical support for specific library services.
- Provides customized development and support for web applications, including creation of customized scripts and processes.
- Plans, installs, and maintains components to existing Library servers on a variety of platforms, including Unix and Windows.
- Trains State Employees and Library staff on technical aspects of library services, including assistance with supplemental materials for the Library website.
- Provides hardware and software desktop support for Library staff.
- Assists with library staff training and tutorials on web applications and library services.
In addition to the individual tasks listed above, each employee is expected to contribute to a positive and productive work environment, work cooperatively with coworkers, participate in agency development activities and provide positive customer service to the public, coworkers and other state employees.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Will be expected to share the mission, vision, and core values of the Library as a team-based organization;
- Extended periods of use and exposure to video display monitors, keyboards, computer mice, etc.;
- Lifts PCs, terminals, and other computer equipment up to 50 lbs., bending, crawling and reaching under desks and computer workstations;
- Occasional weekend and after-hours work may be required; and
- Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record or an acceptable alternate means of transportation.

TO QUALIFY
Your application will be reviewed to verify that you meet the qualifications stated in this section. To receive credit, your application must clearly show that you have:
Two years of professional information systems experience which includes developing, maintaining, and installing information systems, and analyzing systems. Experience must include at least three of the following:
- significant responsibility for direct user support of computer- and web-based services,
- documenting procedures or user instructions and user instruction on these procedures / instructions,
- troubleshooting to resolve hardware or software problems,
- installing, testing, and maintaining hardware and software, or
- web application development and support.
AND either
- at least 30 quarter (20 semester) credits in computer science; or
- two more years of information systems experience.
Success in this position requires public relations skills, trainer knowledge and skills, and a demonstrated ability to work directly with business, appointed, elected and other officials. The individual must have a broad knowledge base and ability to use a variety of computers, software and networking information systems, the ability to use computerized systems, and skill in the effective use of computer command languages.
