Contents of "get-away" kit
If you are asked to evacuate your home, you probably won't have time to pack everything you will need. Make a list now and prepare a "Get-away Kit" that you can take with you on a moment's notice. Gather only what you and your family will need for a possible stay of three days. Here are some items you should consider:
  • Extra clothing, outer-wear.
  • Personal hygiene items.
  • Extra sets of keys.
  • Medical supplies such as eyeglasses, dentures, prescription drugs, and a first aid kit.
  • Special dietary supplements, baby formulas, or other special foods.
  • Baby supplies such as diapers, toys.
  • Portable, battery powered radio and flashlight.
  • Driver's license, identification and other important papers.
  • Checkbook, credit cards, and cash.
  • Sleeping bags and extra blankets.
  • A list of relatives with addresses and telephone numbers.
  • Bottled water and snack foods to nibble on. You may be stuck in traffic or face other delays.
  • If possible, keep at least a half tank of gasoline in your car at all times.
