Board Member Biography
Ellen Laymon
Ms. Ellen Laymon worked in the seafood and fruit and vegetable processing industries prior to joining the Oregon Department of Agriculture in 1999. She is currently a Food Program Manager for the Department's Food Safety Division and a recent graduate of the Leadership Oregon program.
 
Ms. Laymon has served on the Western Association of Food and Drug Officials (WAFDO) Board of Directors as the Liaison to the AFDO (Association of Food and Drug Officials) Board of Directors, served as co-editor of the WAFDO newsletter (WAFDO Flash) and is the current President for WAFDO. Ellen currently serves on the AFDO Board as the Secretary/Treasurer. She has been an active WAFDO and AFDO member since 2002, and has co-chaired the AFDO Retail Food, Field and Food Committees.
 
She was Oregon's delegate to the Conference for Food Protection in 2004 and 2006 and actively participates in CFP committee work.
 
She is involved in the Oregon Section Institute of Food Technologist where she served as treasurer for three years, was the recipient of the Oregon Section Marv Byer Volunteer of the Year award and Outstanding Section Volunteer for National IFT.  She represents the Oregon Department of Agriculture on the Oregon Food Service Advisory Committee, the Oregon Health Licensing Board and the County Level Environmental Health Board.
 
Ms. Laymon has served on the selection committee for the NSF Food Safety Leadership Awards Program since the inception five years ago and is a judge for local high school Intel Science Fair Competition (2006 and 2007).
 
In October 2006, she traveled to Saipan, CNMI for a World Health Organization funded mission for regulatory and industry training. She planned, prepared and presented a four-day training for both audiences on bottled water, ice manufacturing and drinking water regulations.
 

"I can provide my leadership skills to discuss environmental health issues of local, state and national consequence," says Ms. Laymon.  "I would like to help resolve any issues or matters in the most positive light and with the best outcome for all parties involved."
