Rick Crager, Deputy Director
Rick Crager has been with Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) since 1998; serving as Deputy Director since October 1, 2006.  In addition to his work as the Deputy Director, he has also successfully held positions as the Financial Services Manager (1998-2001), and the Chief Financial Officer (2001-2006).  Crager has also served, at the request of the Governor, as Acting Director for OHCS on two separate occasions during portions of 2006 and 2011.
 
As the OHCS Deputy Director, Crager leads the department in the development and execution of the agency’s strategic initiatives, as well as development of the agency’s legislative concepts and representation in front of the state legislature.  In addition, he has served in a leadership role in various marketing initiatives, development and implementation of new programs and related administrative rules. He also serves as liaison with the Governor and the legislature's policy advisors on key issues and proposals.
 
Prior to his work with OHCS (1989 to 1998), Crager worked for three other state government organizations: Oregon Commission on Children and Families, Oregon State Marine Board, and the Department of Human Services.  His work focused primarily in the areas of budget management and analysis, fiscal monitoring and oversight, policy development, and accounting operations.  During this time, Crager served in key state management and financial analyst positions.
 
Crager is a native Oregonian born and raised in Myrtle Creek, Oregon.  He spent his teenage years in Salem, Oregon, where he graduated from Sprague High School and subsequently graduated from Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon, with his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. 
 
Crager’s life and passion is his family, which includes his wife, Sherry, son, Ben, and daughter, Alyx.   His passion for family comes through his commitment to ensuring individuals and families have a place they can call home. “Home is where the heart is.”  Pliny the Elder (AD 23 – August 24, AD 79).
