| Semi truck fire closes I-5 in North Eugene | ||

SPRINGFIELD – A fully engulfed semi truck and trailer fire just north of Beltline Highway has closed northbound and southbound Interstate 5 in the Eugene-Springfield area. The truck fire started at approximately 8:30 p.m. ODOT responders on the scene report the fire has ruptured the fuel tanks on the burning vehicle, and a large quantity of diesel has spilled. The burning vehicle is on southbound I-5 at approximately milepost 196, close to the I-5 diversion bridge over Game Farm Road. Due to heavy, black smoke blowing west to east, both northbound and southbound I-5 at milepost 196 have been closed at this time. Hazardous materials responders are on their way to the scene to contain and clean up the fuel spill. Emergency crews are in the process of setting up detours. It is unclear when the interstate will be reopened in both directions. ## ODOT ##
