Typically used by the military, the modular bridge will span Ayers Creek until a new bridge can be built
YAMHILL – In partnership with Yamhill County, the Oregon Department of Transportation will install a modular, temporary bridge on North Valley Road over Ayers Creek, which is about five miles northeast of the City of Yamhill. The temporary bridge, also known as a Bailey bridge, will establish one-lane traffic flow along North Valley Road. The existing Ayers Creek Bridge was irreparably damaged during December storms and subsequent flooding.
ODOT maintenance crews are scheduled to prepare the site on Feb. 19 for construction on Feb. 21. Construction should take less than two days. Once ODOT finishes construction of the one-lane structure, Yamhill County will build the bridge approaches and install traffic control devices.
The temporary bridge will be load-restricted based upon the final design, which should be completed this week.
The modular, prefabricated truss bridge is typically used by the military. The Army National Guard has agreed to allow ODOT and Yamhill County to use the modular bridge until Yamhill County can build a permanent structure.
Because of Governor Kulongoski’s emergency declaration during the December storms, a new bridge will be funded through the Federal Highway Administration’s Emergency Relief Program.
