| Motorcycle Instruction Permit |
|
A motorcycle instruction permit authorizes the operation of any motorcycle during daylight hours when under the supervision of a person who is at least 21 years of age, who has a valid license with a motorcycle endorsement, who is riding a separate motorcycle, and is in visual contact with the permit holder. You must apply in person at a DMV office.
To apply you must:
NOTE: There is no fee for the motorcycle endorsement knowledge test.
Expiration/Renewal
A motorcycle instruction permit is valid for one year from the date of issuance. A motorcycle instruction permit may be renewed. Renewing the motorcycle instruction permit does not extend the validity of the current permit. If you renew prior to the expiration date of the current permit, it will be valid for one year from the issuance date. If your permit has been expired for more than one year you will be required to successfully complete the knowledge and vision tests and pay all applicable fees.

- Provide proof of your Social Security Number (SSN);

- Test Waivers for TEAM OREGON Courses:
- Pass a vision screening test as defined in OAR 735-062-0050;
- Pay appropriate issuance fees; and
- Not have suspended, canceled, revoked, or otherwise withdrawn driving privileges in Oregon or any other state.
NOTE: There is no fee for the motorcycle endorsement knowledge or drive test.

Motorcycles Make Sense - So Does Professional Training
They are inexpensive to operate, fun to ride and easy to park. Unfortunately, many riders never learn the critical skills needed to ride safely.
Professional training for beginning and experienced riders prepares them for real-world traffic situations. Motorcycle Rider Courses teach and improve skills such as:
- Effective turning
- Braking maneuvers
- Protective apparel selection
- Obstacle avoidance
- Traffic strategies
- Maintenance
