Driver License Classes
DMV issues the following driver license classifications:
 
Classification
Vehicles That May Be Operated
Class A Commercial
May drive any vehicle or combination of vehicles with the proper endorsements.
Class B Commercial
May drive any single vehicle with the proper endorsements. May tow a trailer up to 10,000 pounds GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) and GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating). If the trailer has a GVW or GVWR of more than 10,000 pounds, the GVW and GVWR of the combination (Towing vehicle and trailer) must be less than 26,000 pounds.
Class C Commercial
With the proper endorsement, may drive any single vehicle with a GVW and GVWR that is not more than 26,000 pounds that is designed to carry more than 16 passengers, including the driver, or is designed to carry hazardous materials.
Class C
May drive any single vehicle with a GVW and GVWR less than 26,001 pounds that is designed to carry less than 16 passengers (including driver). May tow another vehicle with a loaded GVW and GVWR less than 10,000 pounds, provided the total combined GVW and GVWR does not exceed 26,000 pounds. May operate a moped. Firefighters operating emergency fire vehicles are included in this class as are operators of recreational vehicles being used for personal use.
Class C Restricted
Licensed to operate a moped, or person has a student permit, emergency permit, or disabled golf cart permit.  This license type is displayed on the record as a Class C with a restriction code (2, 3, 4, 5, and sometimes J, as applicable).
 


Driver License Endorsements
DMV issues the following driver license endorsements:
 

Code
Endorsement
Any vehicle which carries hazardous materials (HAZMAT) that requires placards.
Motorcycle endorsement for any motorcycle regardless of engine displacement. 
Tank vehicles designed to transport any liquid or gaseous material within a tank that is either permanently or temporarily attached to a vehicle or chassis.  Does not include portable tanks with a rated capacity of less than 1,000 gallons.
Passenger vehicles designed to carry 16 or more persons, including the driver. 
Moped (No longer used but may still appear on some records).
School bus used to transport students to/from school or school events.
Double/triple trailers allowed.
Combined hazardous materials/tank endorsement.
Farm endorsement (Class A).
Farm endorsement (Class B)
