| General Information |
|
A Driver Training Instructor Certificate authorizes an individual to teach other persons to drive a motor vehicle and to supervise the practice of other persons learning to drive a motor vehicle for compensation. Vehicles include, but are not limited to cars, trucks, motorhomes and motorcycles.

| Qualify/Apply |
|
In order to qualify and apply, you must:
- Be at least 21 years of age to conduct behind-the-wheel training and age 19 to conduct classroom training;
- Be an employee of a School that holds a valid and current Commercial Driver Training School License issued by DMV;
- Have valid Oregon driving privileges and have had valid driving privileges for at least three years preceding the date an application is submitted to DMV for an instructor license (an instructor who has not held Oregon driving privileges for the three year period may be required to submit a certified driving record from any jurisdiction or foreign government that issued driving privileges during that period);
- Complete a Driver Training Instructor Application (Form 6050B), signed by the owner of the commercial driver training school;
- Pay a $100 application fee;
- Pass the Commercial Driving School Instructor knowledge test and drive test;
- Pass a vision test; and
- Pass a criminal background check.

| Renewal |
|
Driver Training Instructor Certificates are issued annually and they expire on the last day of the calendar year (i.e., December 31), regardless of the date they were issued. Certificates are issued for a given calendar year, not for a set 12 month period from the date of issuance.
To renew your license, you must:
- Submit another properly completed application form to DMV prior to the current license expiration; and
- Pay the $100 application/renewal fee.
