Vehicle Appraiser Certificate

General Information
A Vehicle Appraiser Certificate authorizes an individual to appraise vehicles. Vehicles include, but are not limited to cars, trucks, motorhomes and motorcycles.

Qualify/Apply
In order to qualify and apply, you must:
  • Complete a Vehicle Appraiser Certificate Application (Form 6610);
  • Provide a brief explanation and evidence (i.e., attach documented evidence or letters from an employer) of a minimum of two years of experience, or combination of, in any of the following areas:
    • Estimating new or used vehicles
    • Performing repair or insurance estimating
    • Appraising or estimating insurance claims
    • Operating a wrecking yard or salvage yard
    • Executing sheriff's bills of sale
    • Other related experience (other experience may be accepted as long as knowledge of vehicle value and appraisal methods are evident); and
  • Pay a $75 application fee.

Service counter hours are 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday (excluding statewide and holiday closures).
 
Note: Due to the added costs of merchant fees, DMV offices only accept cash or checks and do not accept credit or debit cards.

Renewal
Vehicle Appraiser Certificates are valid for three years from the date of issuance.
 
In order to renew your certificate, you must submit a completed application form and pay the $75 application fee. Appraisers that do not renew their certificate within 60 days after expiration must reapply for an original certificate (i.e., they must provide evidence of at least two years of applicable experience in addition to submitting the application and paying the fee).
