The nine districts that manage state forestlands produce annual operations plans each year. The plans are based on each district’s 10-year implementation plan and the overarching, long-range forest management plans for policy and guidance.
Annual operation plans identify and describe specific projects relative to the economic, environmental and social aspects of managing state lands, such as timber sales, road maintenance, stream enhancement and trail building.
Public comment periods for the FY 2009 annual operations plans ran from February 11 to March 26, 2008. The public involvement process provided an opportunity for Department of Forestry districts to share their annual plans with the public. It also was a time for the public to ask questions and offer comments on the planned activities on state forestlands. Information on how best to provide written comments is available.

Modifications
Annual operations plans occasionally need to be modified after approval, due to new information, changes in budget levels, or unforeseen circumstances.
Modifications that significantly change the character of the operation are considered major modifications. These major modifications are reviewed by appropriate resource specialists, and approved by the district forester.
Input from resource specialists, agency administrators, as well as the public comments received during the official public comment period, are considered by the district forester before approving major modifications to annual operations plans.
Substituting an alternate timber sale already included in an approved annual operations plan is not considered a major modification.
Approved major modifications are listed with the district's approved annual operations plans.
