Western Lane District provides fire protection to 750,650 acres of private and public forest land in western Lane County and parts of northern Douglas County. The district´s State Lands program manages 26,002 acres of forest land.  Implementing the Oregon Forest Practices Act, Western Lane has an active Private Forests program.  Stewardship foresters work with Oregon´s forest industry and assists non-industrial woodland owners in managing their lands and increasing the productivity of their natural resources.

Visitors from the public  will find good tips and useful information on the Fire Prevention page concerning Fire Season, current Fire Danger levels, and Burning Permits.  Check the Fire Protection page to learn about Western Lane´s Fire Program and recent fire history (pocket card).

Wood Cutting Permits are not being issued at this time through the Western Lane District. During the month of October the District was only able to issue roughly 75 permits due to the lack of logging activity that occurred on the State Lands. It is expected that no permits will be issued till October 2009. To find out more information about wood cutting permits for State Lands in other districts, click here. You may also find the U.S. Forest Service to be useful, as well as the Bureau of Land Management.

Visitors from forest industry and small woodland owners will find the page on Forest Industry Issues filled with information on obtaining operation permits, burning permits, Fire Season requirements, Industrial Precaution Levels, and you´ll be able to contact the Stewardship forester in your area of operation.

Job hunters should check the page on fire jobs in Western Lane District. For other forestry jobs see the ODF Employment page.

Some links on the pages in this site will take you out of the Western Lane pages. Good luck & thanks for visiting.
