The rough allocarya, a rare plant known only from Douglas County, Oregon, is given a greater chance for survival through the efforts of the Oregon Department of Agriculture, the Douglas County Soil and Water Conservation District, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and Oregon State University.  Personnel from the Oregon Department of Agriculture's Native Plant Conservation Program grew just under a thousand individuals of Plagiobothrys hirtus, the rough allocarya in the greenhouses at Oregon State University. In April 2006 these plants were planted on land in Sutherlin, owned by the Douglas County Soil and Water District.  This project is part of an on-going effort to create enough healthy wild populations of this attractive plant to someday remove it from the endangered list.
