The 2009 Oregon Legislature limited the number of acres that can be Stack Burned in the Willamette Valley to 1000 acres per year.

Stack Burning registration is conducted two times per year: January 2 through January 31; September 1 through September 30.

Willamette Valley Field Burning Rules Revisions
Changes to the Smoke Management (Field Burning) Program

The 2009 Oregon Legislature adopted Senate Bill 528 reducing the number of acres that grass seed growers in the Willamette Valley can burn. See Senate Bill 528 - Changes to Field Burning Regulations Starting in 2009, listed below, for a brief overview of these changes.

The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) manages the Smoke Management Program under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). These two agencies are in the process of developing the rules that will regulate field burning in the Willamette Valley.

An advisory committee will be meeting in November or December 2009, to review the proposed changes to the rules. The public is invited to attend this meeting, and/or the two public rulemaking hearings to be held in Salem and Eugene in January 2010.
