OVERT:
Oregon Veterinary Emergency Response Team

Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA), Division of Animal Health and Identification (AHID), in conjunction with the USDA, has developed a plan of action for response to animal disease emergencies or animal disasters. The plan is called the Oregon Animal Health Emergency Management Plan and encompasses response to foreign animal disease outbreaks and animal disasters. As part of this plan, AHID would like to identify veterinarians, and animal health technicians who would be willing to undergo training in animal health emergency management and serve as members of the Oregon Veterinary Emergency Response Team (OVERT).

The combined staff of the ODA-AHID and USDA-Veterinary Services in Oregon will not be adequate to carry out all of the actions that will be required to quickly and efficiently respond to the incursion of a foreign animal disease, such as Foot and Mouth Disease. A cadre of trained private practice veterinarians and animal health technicians could effectively aid the state emergency disease response.

Our goal is to identify and prepare at least 150 veterinarians and animal health technicians to respond to animal health emergencies. Over 120 Oregon veterinarians and animal health technicians are currently members of OVERT. They have received initial training and periodic continuing education.

Both active and retired veterinarians who are interested in being a part of OVERT are encouraged to respond. If you would like to be part of OVERT, please fill out and return the application. On acceptance of your application you will be notified of the next OVERT continuing education seminar to be held in your area.

Thank you for your willingness to serve the people and industry of your state!
