Goal
To support local decision-making processes through the allocation of targeted community investments.
How Do Locally Invested Funds Work?
The Commission on Children and Families system facilitates local county-based planning efforts to identify the strengths, needs and barriers of children, youth and their families. Resources are then targeted to local programs and initiatives selected as priorities through the local decision-making process.
The following is a list of funding streams available to communities for local investments through the Commission on Children and Families system.
- Family Preservation and Support (Federal): Prevention and intervention services to promote family stability, support positive parenting, protect children from harm, and help families at risk or in crisis.
- Great Start (State): Prevention and intervention services and initiatives for children prenatal to 8 years of age and their families to promote social, emotional, physical and intellectual development, addressing needs identified in the county comprehensive plan.
- Juvenile Services (State and Federal): Prevention and intervention services and supports which promote positive social, emotional and behavioral health among youth 8-18 years of age and their families to reduce juvenile crime.
- Basic Capacity (State): Local commission staffing efforts to coordinate and facilitate local planning processes and to implement and evaluate the initiatives and services identified in the county plan.
- Youth Investment (Federal): Prevention and intervention services and initiatives targeting at-risk, non-delinquent youth 13-18 years of age and their families.
- Children, Youth and Families (State): Prevention and intervention services for children prenatal through 18 years of age and their families to promote social, emotional, physical and intellectual development, addressing needs indentified in the county comprehensive plan.
