Delegation to Oaxaca, Mexico
Next January, CAUSA is leading a delegation to Oaxaca, Mexico to explore the relationship between Oregon and Oaxaca and learn about the root causes of migration. Oaxacans currently make up the largest group of immigrants in Oregon. This delegation will provide the opportunity to learn about Oaxaca's rich mixture of cultural heritages, the current economic and socio-political situation in Oaxaca, and the reasons why so many Oaxacans have migrated to the United States and Oregon. During the delegation, participants will meet with a variety of individuals and organizations working with migrants, with human and indigenous rights, environmental issues, and artisan cooperatives. Participants will also visit Santa María Tindu and Barranca Fierro Mixtepec, two rural communities that are the hometowns of a number of Oregonian Oaxacans.

CAUSA is working in coordination with Witness for Peace's Mexico Team to arrange logistics and meetings. CAUSA staff will provide Spanish to English interpretation and facilitation during the delegation.

There will be an informational meeting on Thursday October 1st at 6:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, UCC in Salem for all those interested.
