The office consolidations are part of a larger budget reduction plan being submitted to the Department of Administrative Services on August 1, 2006 as the 2007-2009 Agency Request Budget for the Employment Department. The plans to reduce $25.7 million dollars in both staff and services and supplies expenditures. A total of 82 Full Time Equivalents (FTE) will be eliminated, mostly through attrition. The department has also identified reductions in the 2005-2007 biennium that will lessen budget reductions in future biennia.
The department receives approximately 70% of its funding from federal sources. The agency pays out benefits to those out of work through no fault of their own, provides job finding and recruiting assistance to businesses and job seekers, researches and presents labor market information, and coordinates assistance to and regulates the child care industry.
During the consolidation process, the department will work with partners in each affected area to ensure that service delivery continues for businesses and job seekers.
