Stewardship Coordinator
As Stewardship Coordinator, Hans plans, directs and implements on-the-ground conservation, restoration and resource management activities for the South Slough NERR. Working with both the research and education programs, Hans endeavors to contribute to projects that advance the Reserve’s mission which is "to improve the understanding and stewardship of Pacific Northwest estuaries and coastal watersheds".
Background and Experience
Hans' professional background includes working as a water resource specialist for the state of Alaska, and as an invasive species specialist for a soil and water conservation district. He has served as a director of conservation for a regional land trust, and has been employed as a hydrologist for the National Park Service. He has been a reporter for a small town newspaper and a part-time carpenter. After his graduation from college in the nation's fastest growing city, Hans did extensive research on climate change in some of the remotest regions of Alaska.
Living and working in many diverse environments has provided Hans with a wide range of skills and knowledge. His background includes experience working with many different types of communities and relating to their approaches toward land-use, natural resources and a changing environment.
