If you haven't yet filed your tax return, consider e-filing for a faster kicker
10/05/2007
SALEM—Most Oregon taxpayers getting kicker checks will get theirs by mid-December. Taxpayers who filed extensions in April, but are waiting until the last minute to file their return, may not get their kickers when everyone else does.

That's because Oregon law directs the department to mail kicker checks by December 15 to all eligible taxpayers who filed by August 15. Nearly 95 percent of taxpayers filed by that date.

If you still haven't filed your return and want to increase your odds of getting a timely kicker check, consider filing electronically.

"It's a lot faster. We can process e-filed returns in seven to 12 business days. It can take six to eight weeks to process a paper return," said Sue Billman, kicker project manager. "But we'll process returns and get kickers mailed as quickly as possible."

The department has already begun preparing kicker checks. Printing will begin this month and continue until they are mailed later this year.
