Community organizations and individual volunteers work – often without much public fanfare - to make a difference in jails and prisons throughout the U.S. Services provided by these groups and individuals range from academic tutoring and life-skills programming to self-help programs, family re-integration, arts activities, and community re-entry support.
Warner Creek Correctional Facility Receives Frank J. Bertak Award
The staff at Warner Creek Correctional Facility (WCCF) in Lakeview were recognized at the Southern Oregon Occupational Safety & Health Conference in Medford on Thursday, October 20, 2011. The WCCF Safety Committee was the recipient of the Frank J. Bertak Award which identifies safety committees, its members, and activities that have made a significant contribution towards a company's overall success.

Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution's (EOCI) faith-based Anger Management Program in General Population (GP) and the Disciplinary Segregation Unit (DSU) was given The American Correctional Chaplains' Association (ACCA) award for 2011 as recognition for excellence in Chaplaincy programming.

The impact of major policies on the prison population are provided as well as an overview of intake trends.
Governor Kulongoski has signed "Go Oregon!" into law, authorizing the sale of bonds to fund important maintenance and construction projects at public facilities throughout Oregon. Of the $175 million in total statewide projects, DOC will receive just under $6.7 million to fund 10 agency projects.
