Staff Member Injured at Snake River Correctional Institution

The Oregon State Police are investigating an incident that occurred Wednesday morning when a work crew van rolled over a Corrections Landscaper at Snake River Correctional Institution (SRCI) in Ontario.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 9:30 a.m. MDT, Sharon Schultz had stepped out of the van when, for an unknown reason, it began to roll backwards and ran over her after she slipped on the ground. There were no other individuals in the van at the time.

Schultz was supervising an four-man minimum-custody inmate work crew performing landscape maintenance. Three of the inmates working on the crew witnessed the accident and immediately summoned staff assistance.

Schultz was transported by ambulance to Holy Rosary Medical Center in Ontario and was life-flighted to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. She is in stable condition.

Schultz was hired by SRCI as a Corrections Landscaper in 1995.

An Oregon State Police (OSP) detective and trooper have interviewed the inmate witnesses, and an OSP Crash Reconstructionist is assisting. The investigation is continuing.
