| Penitentiary inmate dies following apparent suicide attempt |

An Oregon State Penitentiary inmate died at Salem Hospital on Tuesday morning, November 28, 2006, of apparent complications from self-inflicted wounds.
Randall James, 46, was found bleeding and unresponsive in his single cell in the prison's Intensive Management Unit. He was discovered by correctional staff at 11:14 p.m., Monday, November 27, 2006. Staff immediately began emergency first aid and James was transported to the hospital by ambulance where he was stabilized and admitted. He died shortly after 7:00 this morning.
James was first admitted to prison on December 04, 1979, from Washington County on a conviction of Burglary II. He had subsequent convictions from Multnomah, Marion, Malheur and Sherman counties. His current convictions were for three counts of Robbery I and one count of Assault II from Multnomah County, one count of Escape II from Marion County, and one count of Assault II from Malheur County. He had a projected release date in August 2018.
As with all deaths of state prisoners, the Oregon State Police are investigating.
