The Oregon State Police and the Marion County Homicide/Assault Response team are investigating a homicide at the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem.
Inmate David Shane Polin, d.o.b. 07/06/72, was found deceased this morning in the activities area of the Penitentiary. An autopsy will be performed tomorrow at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Portland.
According to the Department of Corrections, Inmate Polin has been incarcerated six times in the Department of Corrections since 1992. His convictions include attempted murder, assault in the first degree, assault in the third degree, felon in possession of a firearm, unauthorized use of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance and supplying contraband Inmate Polin’s most recent projected release date was August 2010.
Further information regarding this investigation will be released by the District Attorney’s Office as it becomes available.
