Woodburn Police and the Oregon State Police captured a fugitive from a state inmate work crew at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in Woodburn, Oregon. Mario R. Gonzalez, 43, was arrested at the home of a relative. The arrest came after information was provided to the Woodburn Police and the Oregon State Police by the Oregon Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Unit.
Gonzalez’s arrest occurred without incident following cooperation of family members to arrange his peaceful surrender. He will be transported to the Marion County Jail. Prosecution on escape charges are the responsibility of the Washington County District Attorney.
"There was seamless cooperation among law enforcement agencies in tracking down and capturing this inmate," said Mrs. Les Dolecal, inspector general of the Oregon Department of Corrections. "Starting with the Sherwood Police yesterday, the Woodburn Police today and the efforts of the Oregon State Police, we are grateful to have so many agencies go all out to bring this inmate into custody."
Gonzalez fled from a minimum security work crew in Sherwood shortly before 9 a.m., Tuesday, April 11. The work crew was performing landscape maintenance for the City of Sherwood Parks Department.
