Vaccines for Children Program (VFC)
The Vaccines for Children Program (VFC) supplies federally purchased free vaccines for immunizing eligible children in public and private practices - at no cost to participating private health care providers. Approximately 60 percent of U.S. children may be expected to benefit from the VFC Program. Patients through age 18 are eligible if they are:
- enrolled in Medicaid or The Oregon Health Plan;
- uninsured; or
- American Indian/Alaskan Native.
Vaccine Eligibility
Oregon's VFC Program was designed by a coalition of private and public sector health care professionals. The program aims to help Oregon reach its goal of having 90 percent of our children up-to-date with their immunization series by age two. Currently, 76.5 percent of Oregon's children are immunized on time.
Missed opportunities are a major barrier to timely immunizations. VFC reduces this barrier by making it possible for private providers to offer free vaccines in the office or clinic. Additionally, VFC offers substantial cost savings to enrolled providers.

Comprehensive Triennial Plan (CTP) and Annual Progress Reports
1. ANNUAL PROGRESS REPORTS: All Local Health Department Immunization Programs are required to review their current Comprehensive Triennial Plan (CTP) annually and submit a Progress Report detailing the outcome(s) of the past year’s activities to date: July 1, 2008 through April 30, 2009. Agencies will complete the “Outcome Measure Results” and “Progress Notes” columns on their CTPs for 2008-. Agencies must also submit an electronic version (in Word format via e-mail) to susan.weiner@state.or.us. Progress reports will be forwarded to your OIP health educator for review and approval.
2. NEW COMPREHENSIVE TRIENNIAL PLANS (CTP): Local Health Departments that have triennial reviews in the 2009 calendar year are required to write a new Comprehensive Triennial Plan this year. Beginning this year, plans will transition to a calendar year format from the prior fiscal year format. However, since new triennial plans are not due until May 2009, we request Local Health Departments extend their current CTP through June 2009 and write Year 1 of the new CTP to encompass a 6-month period only: July 1, 2009 through December 31, 2009. Year 2 of your plan will include objectives and activities for calendar year of 2010. Year 3 will continue through calendar year 2011.
3. The completed plan must be included with the county’s annual plan AND submitted electronically (in Word format via e-mail) to susan.weiner@state.or.us. Plans will be forwarded to your OIP health educator for review and approval.
