                 First Responder Certification & Recertification

In addition to the EMT programs, Oregon also has a very active First Responder training program. In cooperation with approximately 160 agencies across Oregon, we provide the following services.

Certification

Oregon First Responder education is provided through the use of the following curriculum:

Emergency Medical Services: First Responder Training
U.S. Department of Transportation
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
August 1995

This course consists of forty hours of didactic, including lab work.

Recertification

First Responder certification expires June 30 of every even-numbered year. During the recertification biennium, the First Responder must complete sixteen (16) hours of continuing education in the following areas.

Recertification for the First Responder is obtained through the agency that provided the course and the original certification.

Training

Training Agencies interested in providing the First Responder Training Program may contact duenna.l.ignacio-kawanishi@state.or.us, Prohospital Standards at the Oregon Health Services EMS Section.

If you are interested in becoming a certified First Responder, contact your local fire department, ambulance agency or community college. You may also download the following files.
