Careers in Public Health

Choosing a Career

While many people begin their public health careers directly out of college, others come into the field with prior professional training and expertise. The list of public health careers is long and varied, but some examples include physician, public health nurse, epidemiologist, statistician, health educator, sanitarian, microbiologist, behavioral scientist and researcher.
"When you choose public health, you do not quit being a nutritionist, or a social worker, or a pharmacist, or a physician or a nurse. Your commitment to caring for people is still paramount—you simply are applying it to broader populations instead of individual patients."
