Amebiasis Amebiasis is a disease caused by a one-celled parasite called Entamoeba histolytica (ent-a-ME-ba hiss-toe-LI-ti-ka. This parasite is found in the United States and around the world. Amebiasis is no longer a reportable disease in Oregon as of 2003.
