DHS Klamath-Lake manager moving to Medford operations job

Ida Saito, Oregon Department of Human Services manager for Jackson and Josephine counties, will also become acting manager for Klamath and Lake counties on Monday, succeeding Bob Marsalli.

Marsalli, Klamath-Lake manager since September 2001, has requested a reassignment to a position working more closely with DHS programs. He has accepted a reassignment, starting Monday, as an operations manager in DHS' Medford office.

"I've decided to step back and really learn more about DHS programs and services from the operational level," Marsalli told staff members. Marsalli said he believes the new role will give him a "fresh vantage point" from which to become more skillful in interpreting and applying DHS programs, policies and practices.

As an operations manager, Marsalli will supervise self-sufficiency staff working with clients receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, food stamps, child-care subsidies, JOBS services, or medical benefits. Before DHS reorganized, assigning regional managers to manage all its programs in a region, Marsalli was district manager for the agency's former Adult and Family Services Division (AFS).

"Bob Marsalli's peers, community partners and the central office have great respect for him," said Jerry Burns, DHS deputy assistant director for field operations. "I know Bob will make a solid contribution in anything he does."

Saito, meanwhile, has been DHS' Jackson-Josephine manager since 2001. Prior to accepting that job, she was AFS district manager for two years and assistant district manager for five years before that.

Burns said DHS expects to recruit for a permanent manager for Klamath and Lake counties after fully assessing the needs.
