| SHIBA Volunteer Training Program |
|
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with SHIBA. We are implementing a new online Training Module Quiz system for the training portion of becoming a volunteer. Please speak with the SHIBA volunteer coordinator in your county for more information on completing the online Training Module Quiz. If you have further questions, please contact Dawn Shaw. E-mail: dawn.shaw@state.or.us Phone: 503-947-7302 SHIBA relies on trained volunteers throughout the state to help people with Medicare. The training process has three components: Self study, internship, and in-person classes. SHIBA field officers teach classes on volunteering and Medicare to groups of volunteers in different parts of the state throughout the year.
We also train those who want to volunteer, but cannot attend classes. Experienced volunteers can use the materials below for their recertification process.
Most volunteers like starting with the training Overview and then working through the sections in order, from Section 1 through Section 8, as each section builds on information taught in the previous one. Once you've been accepted as a SHIBA volunteer-in-training, you'll be given access to the training modules online. As you complete each module, you will recieve a score indicating completion of that training module and with a score of 75% or higher you will be able to proceed to the next trainging module. When you have passed all the online training modules, your coordinator will be notified and will set up at least 10 hours of internship for you under the quidance of a certified volunteer. Once you've completed your internship, you will become a certified SHIBA volunteer, and will receive a certificate, name badge, and business cards. You will work directly under a SHIBA coordinator and will be required to assist clients and to attend two-hour bi-monthly (every other month) volunteer meetings. Have fun learning, and thank you for your interest in SHIBA!
