DAS is pleased to announce the Salem Motor Pool will reopen on February 13; the operation closed January 27 due to flooding.
Thanks to the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training and staff from Publishing & Distribution, the State Data Center, and DAS Facilities, we opened a temporary daily rental operation at DPSST, enabling Fleet to continue serving customers. DPSST was such an incredible partner, often anticipating our needs before we asked.
Daily Rentals: DAS will move the Daily Rental operation back to Salem Motor Pool on Monday, February 13. Until then we will continue the temporary operation at DPSST.
Customers with personal vehicles at DPSST may return state vehicles there; staff will be on site at DPSST through Wednesday, February 15.
Customers who plan to have someone pick them up may return vehicles to Salem Motor Pool on or after February 13, even if the vehicle was dispatched from DPSST.
Please call 503-378-4377 for Daily Rental reservations, dispatch questions or to make arrangements for a vehicle dispatched from the DPSST site.
Shop Services and Permanently Assigned Vehicles Customers can resume scheduling services at the Salem Shop starting today, February 6. Customers can also pick up or return permanently assigned vehicles as usual.
Fueling and Car Washing E85 and CNG fuels are available at Salem Motor Pool. We are still assessing the damage to the diesel and regular E10 gasoline fuel in the underground tanks. Fleet will announce to customers when all fueling services are restored. The carwash is under repair and will be closed until further notice.
Flood Damages DAS has reviewed the flood event and created a plan to mitigate the possibility of future loss if a similar event occurs. That plan includes early warning systems that will enable evacuation of vehicles much earlier and faster. In addition, DAS Facilities has identified short- and long-term solutions for protecting underground fuel tanks.
In March we will conduct a drill to test and validate our plan and work out any issues. We will do our best to run the drill at a time that has the least impact on customers.
In closing, I want to thank:
- DPSST for providing an alternative daily rental site and for their support throughout the past few weeks. - The departments of Transportation, Corrections, Forestry, and State Parks and Recreation - for providing temporary parking for vehicles. - Many DAS staff for moving vehicles once the water receded and helping set up the alternate site. - Surplus Property staff for helping tow damaged vehicles. - Last, but not least, the Fleet staff who worked tirelessly to move vehicles (even in rising flood waters) and communicate quickly with customers; they remained extremely flexible, adapting as the situation changed.
Sincerely,
Brian King Fleet Manager DAS State Services Division
