Nagios Implementation
Project Goal: Implement Nagios, an Open Source monitoring tool, to monitor up/down status of network devices/interfaces, firewalls, and servers.
Enterprise Security
Project Goal: Partner with Cisco to implement a multi-layered solution to appropriately protect individual servers and the entire network.
Network Infrastructure Implementation
Project Goal: Replace old network devices that are in a problem state and those without support encryption devices. The SDC Network Team assumes the management of all previously non-standard network devices.
Phase II Data Migration & TSM Implementation
The purpose of this project was to complete the migration of data for the remaining Phase 2 Agencies not utilizing the IBM central tape library (ATL) as well as the deployment of Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM), the engine that supports data migration and ongoing maintenance of centralized storage/back-up services. This also included the expansion of the existing (Hitachi) SAN storage environment and central (IBM) ATL, to accommodate agency capacity needs being managed by the SDC.
Upon completion, all disparate backup services both internal to the State Data Center and external (Burns Archive Facility) were consolidated into one single enterprise class management solution which enabled the SDC to maximize performance, operational, and financial efficiencies.
UNIX Consolidation
The purpose of this project was to migrate and consolidate the UNIX operating systems and associated hardware at the SDC to the IBM AIX environment or other platforms as appropriate. It was not assumed that all current applications running in the Sun Solaris environment would be best suited to operate in the IBM AIX environment. Applications and/or functions were evaluated and migrated on a case by case basis and solutions implemented for each (i.e. Windows, Linux, hardware appliance). This project was handled in four (4) phases.
Phase 1 provided an initial assessment and consolidation strategy for the Sun Solaris servers and functions at the SDC and identified migration targets for each server and/or application. The consolidation strategy consisted of a project wave approach for logical server groups similar in function.
Phase 2 consisted of procuring and building migration targets or environments and testing them. For example, SDC completed the new Oracle environment build on AIX prior to migrating Solaris servers running Oracle.
Phase 3 consisted of migrating Sun Solaris servers and applications to identified consolidation target according to project groups.
Phase 4 consisted of consolidating existing IBM/AIX servers not running on enterprise class servers onto the 595’s. This involved migrating all existing LPAR’s and standalone systems.
Email Hub ReplacementiSeries Consolidation
The purpose of the iSeries Consolidation project was to update the existing iSeries operating systems and associated hardware at the SDC by consolidating them onto a single IBM PS550 platform.
