Program Awards
  • All adopted suggestions receive a Certificate of Merit signed by the Governor and the Commission Chair.
  • Adopted suggestions with verifiable hard cash savings of at least $500 are eligible for a cash award of 10 percent of the savings up to a maximum of $5,000.
  • Adopted suggestions resulting in verifiable net savings (cost avoidance) of at least $1,000 are eligible for a cash award of 5 percent of the savings attributable to the cost avoidance up to a maximum of $5,000.
  • Adopted suggestions that increase an agency´s productivity or level of customer service, but with no verifiable hard cash or cost avoidance savings, are eligible for a non-cash award.
  • Adopted suggestions the Commission determines have statewide or multi-agency applicability are eligible for a 25 percent Statewide Applicability Bonus award. The bonus award is calculated based on the amount of the original award and is limited to $1,000. The bonus award can not be added to the original award to meet the hard cash savings or cost avoidance savings minimum. Suggestions eligible for a non-cash award that the Commission determines have statewide or multi-agency applicability shall be eligible for a non-cash award of greater value.

Award Guidelines: Awards are typically made within one year after an idea is approved by the Employee Suggestion Awards Commission and implemented by the affected agency. This allows agencies to verify savings resulting from the changes included in the specific suggestion. In some cases, part of the award might be delayed until the full value of the first-year savings can be confirmed.

Cash awards are processed through the payroll system and are subject to taxation as income. Potential cash award winners may wish to contact a tax professional prior to receiving their award.
