Under 2009 House Bill 3508, some Oregon Department of Corrections inmates will be eligible for an increase in earned time credits. This increase requires resentencing by the courts, and may mean an earlier release date than under the prior law.
To read more about this change, please see: http://www.oregon.gov/DOC/docs/pdf/30_percent_etc_faq_09.pdf where the Department of Corrections explains which inmates are eligible for the increased earned time credits and how the process will work.
If you are the victim of a crime of one of these offenders, the law requires the prosecuting county’s District Attorney to make reasonable efforts to inform you of your rights regarding the resentencing of the inmate. Most counties have reported they are making those notifications by letter. If you have questions, you can find the contact information for each county’s victim assistance programs at: http://www.doj.state.or.us/crimev/doc/directory_of_victim_services.doc.
While the Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision has no role in these notifications or in the resentencing process, we will continue to oversee offenders’ post-prison supervision until the expiration of their prison terms. If you are a crime victim and have not already registered with the Board, you may do so by going to: http://www.oregon.gov/BOPPPS/victims_guide.shtml.
